Splex.gg was a comprehensive ecosystem of tools for Splinterlands, a blockchain card game on Hive. The flagship product, Rent Golem, automated NFT card rentals with sophisticated pricing algorithms. At peak, we managed 60% of all rentals in the game—$3 million USD flowing through the system daily. Nearly three years of development, 8,700+ commits, 164 database models, 174 background workers.

What I Learned

Blockchain integration requires thinking in transactions, not requests. Every user action is a signed transaction on the Hive chain with real crypto value.

Background job architecture matters at this scale. 174 Sidekiq workers processing rentals, prices, and market data continuously.

Building for crypto communities means 24/7 markets. No maintenance windows when your users are trading globally around the clock.
