RLTracker.pro
2.4M+ trades. 17,500+ scammers caught. 4.5 years building something the community actually needed, then selling it when I was done.
Peer-to-peer item trades across the Rocket League community
From launch to successful exit. Sold after building it solo.
The Trust Problem
Rocket League had a trading economy worth millions, but nobody trusted anyone. Scammers ran wild across Discord, Reddit, and wherever people traded. Every community kept their own spreadsheet of bad actors. Nobody shared data. If you wanted to trade, you just had to hope the other guy was legit.
"Someone needed to build a centralized scam database that everyone could use. Not just a scam list, but actual tools. Reputation tracking, verification, Discord bots. Stuff that worked at this scale."
Alliance Against Scammers coalition protecting traders across communities
What I would charge for a project like this
My first real project. Started as a stats tracker, turned into a full trading platform with a scam database that other communities actually used. Built it from scratch, ran it for 4.5 years, then sold it when I needed something new.
Multi-Platform Stats
Real-time rank tracking across Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Historical progression charts, season comparisons, and a public API that third-party sites actually used.
- • Cross-platform MMR tracking and leaderboards
- • Historical rank progression with visual charts
- • Season-by-season performance comparison
- • Public REST API for developers
Trading Marketplace
Peer-to-peer item trading with a reputation system that actually worked. Price index for every item in the game, updated in real-time. The marketplace became the go-to place for serious traders.
- • +rep/-rep reputation system with history
- • Real-time price index for all items
- • Complete item database with colors and certs
- • Trade history and verification tools
Alliance Against Scammers
The real achievement. A coalition of major trading communities sharing scammer data through RLTracker's centralized database. Partners included Rocket League Exchange, Trade Central, RL Garage, and RL Discord. The list grew from 797 scammers in 2017 to over 17,500 by the time I sold.
- • Cross-community scammer database with proof requirements
- • Discord bot: !scam_check to scan servers for known scammers
Impact & Learnings
Trades tracked across the Rocket League community. Became one of the most trusted resources for serious traders.
From launch to successful exit. Built solo, sold after 4.5 years when it was time to move on.
What I Learned
Database design matters at this scale. When you have millions of records, every index decision and query optimization compounds. I learned more about MySQL performance in this project than in any job.
Trust systems are hard. You can't just let anyone report scammers - you need proof requirements, appeals processes, and community buy-in. Building the Alliance taught me how to work with competing communities.
Knowing when to exit is a skill. RLTracker was doing fine, but I wasn't learning anything new. Selling was the right call.
Need a community platform?
Trading systems, reputation tracking, Discord bots, moderation tools. If you're building something for a community, I've probably solved similar problems before.
